A Legacy of
Warriors & Kings
The history of the Obanla of Ijero—a title born of migration, military prowess, and distinguished honor.
The Migration from Ilasha
The origin of the title Obanla of Ijero is unique because it was imported. The first holder, Agidimomo-Agbo, left Ilasha in the Ikole District following a dispute over the title.
The Ajero of Ijero, recognizing Agidimomo-Agbo's stature, implored him to stay and granted him the very title he had been denied at home, making him the Head of the Odo-Ese Quarter.
Title Significance
- Obanla: The most senior of the Iwarafa-Mefa (Kingmakers).
- Obaisa: A second title earned through military ingenuity and contribution to Ijero.
Agidimomo-Agbo: The Great Warrior
He was a terrific soldier who won many battles for Ijero. Legend tells of his "magical coat" that terrified foes, making him a living legend and securing the Omoloro family as a pillar of Ijero military and civil leadership.
